Introduction

Updated: May 28

My name is Lisa and I am a parent/caregiver to my amazing son who has FASD and is fifteen years old. During this time, I searched for information and support for our family. It did not exist in Peel. So, I co-founded a support group for FASD and I soon became overwhelmed and "burnt out". There were no services or resources to offer the families that were in need. Things are not much better today. Although, I am no longer a facilitator for the support group, FASD Connection Peel still exists today and is run by excellent FASD-informed individuals who truly care.

I wanted to help with FASD by providing services and resources in our community. I went back to school and earned my diploma for Community Worker Outreach and Development/Social Service Worker at Sheridan College.

My vision for this website is to bring news and research about FASD and to engage our community and learn what the needs are and the steps to get these issues resolved.

I will also share what I've learned so far and I hope to keep learning new things from our community.

This website is for all those living and caring for individuals with FASD in the Region of Peel.

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we live, work and gather, and on which the Region of Peel operates, is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land. In particular, we acknowledge the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land, and by doing so, give our respect to its first inhabitants.
